Channary Blackburn (Channary meaning "full moon" or "moon girl" in Khmer) was the eldest daughter of King Marrok and Queen Jannali Blackburn , as well as the older sister of Princess Levana Blackburn, and the mother of Princess Selene Blackburn. Channary was crowned the Queen of Luna, ruling after her parents murder in 108 T.E., till her own death in 112 T.E.

Early Life[]
Crown Princess of Luna[]
Channary Blackburn was born in 86 T.E. to King Marrok and Queen Jannali Blackburn of Luna in the city of Artemisia as the crown princess. Six years later, Channary's younger sister, Princess Levana, was born. When Channary was thirteen years old and Levana was six, Channary wanted Levana to put her hand into a fire that had been put over a holographic one in the fireplace, but Levana refused, so Channary forced Levana to throw herself into the flames, which severely burned and scarred her, forcing Levana to wear a glamour to look beautiful and hide her disfigurement.
Parent's assassination[]
In 108 T.E., King Marrok and Queen Jannali were killed by a shell, who infiltrated and killed the royal gaurds. Due to her parents uncaring and neglectful nature, Channary didn't mourn nor was saddened by their deaths. The day of the funeral, Channary forced Levana to give a speech, displaying little interest becoming queen, much to her sister's annoyance. Channary then slapped Levana to break her concentration on her glamour, so she may see her sister's disfigurement, and insults her by calling her her "ugly duckling."
Reign as Queen of Luna[]
Three days after the funeral, Channary was crowned the Queen of Luna, and she enacted the shell infanticide laws, stating that any Lunars who were born as shells are to be promptly "disposed of" in order to "protect the sanctity of their society." In reality, they were being kept in suspended animation tanks while their blood was used to manufacture the Letumosis antidote.
Channary had little interest in politics and diplomacy, more concerned with the luxuries that came with being royalty. Channary was also seductress and was known to have affairs with several members of the guards and her court. During a ball, Channary and Levana argued about Levana's relationship with Sir Evret Hayle, with Channary believing that it was not real love, though Levana attempted to convince herself otherwise. Channary told Levana that she sees love as a conquest or war and throws two empty glasses; one hits the floor and the other hits Constable Dubrovsky's dance partner.
Pregnancy[]
After Levana and Evret were secretly married, Channary angrily confronted her to have it annulled as she and their father had already promised Levana's hand in marriage to several other suitors from Artemisia's families. Levana refuses, and as the sisters argue over the marriage and Levana's step daughter, Winter Hayle, Channary announced that she believed she was pregnant but is unaware of the father. As the months pass, and Channary developed a constant cough while also scarring the servants into complimenting her about what a wonderful mother she would be. Eventually, she gave birth to her daughter, Princess Selene. Becoming a mother opened a new side to Channary, as she showed her daughter genuine affection and love, which surprised Levana. One day, while planning for a celebration, Channary tells Levana about Dr. Darnel's daughter being a shell who was recently taken away, due to the laws. During their conversation. Channary keeps coughing and Levana suggests she should see Dr. Eliot about it but Channary refuses. She then brings up the suggestion of Crown Prince Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth being a possible suitor for Selene before considering herself marrying Kai's father, Emperor Rikan, hinting at possibly planning an assassination attempt of his wife, the Earthen empress. She also supposedly jokes of having her favorite seamstress's feet removed so that she could do nothing more than make Channary new dresses.
Death[]
Channary's assassination plans never came to fruition, though she did have her seamstress's feet surgically removed; nor did she ever did see Selene marry Kaito, as she died of regolith poisoning months later, at the age of twenty-five. Levana suspected that it was because of her affairs in the outer sectors. Soon after her death, Levana inherited the Lunar throne as queen regent of Luna for twelve years, only until Princess Selene, who was still a baby, became older. A couple of years later, Selene was reportedly killed in a nursery fire when she was just three. However, she somehow miraculously survived and was sent to Earth, under the name "Linh Cinder." Levana had glamoured Selene's new nanny into setting the nursery on fire and was widely believed to have murdered the princess, but due to lack of evidence, could not be arrested.
Legacy[]
Channary passing the shell infanticide law would lead to Dr. Darnel leaving Luna and adopting the alias "Dmitri Erland" and working on finding a cure for letumosis on Earth due to believing his daughter was killed. Princess Selene (aka Cinder) would be Luna's last queen as she abdicated the throne and transformed the Lunar monarchy into a republic.

Physical Appearance[]
In Fairest, Channary was described as remarkably beautiful-much to Levana's shock- despite her cruelty; bearing tanned skin and dark chestnut-brown hair that was apparently not a glamour, as Selene/Cinder has inherited these in her own looks. She was noted to have eyes that tilt up at the corners, as though she was perpetually smiling, which might have been a glamour.
Personality Traits[]
Channary was cruel and cold, but while Levana was calculating, Channary was truly sadistic, as seen when she had her "favourite seamstress's feet chopped off so she would have nothing better to do than to sit and make her fine dresses." She also forced Levana to throw herself into a fire when Levana was just six years old and she was thirteen. This is the reason Levana refused to be seen without her glamour as it hides her burn scars and the paralyzed left half of her face. She is known to insult others so she can lift herself up as well as speaking ill of her sister, Levana, due to her scars.
She appeared to have had very little interest in governing her kingdom nor did she seem to care about the citizens of Luna, leaving the job mostly to her sister and councillors - especially when she was pregnant with Selene. She would much rather spend her time going to parties, paying attention to her appearance, and soon became known for her promiscuity with both the higher and lower castes of Luna, which ultimately led to her pregnancy. However, she remained unaware of the father and didn't seem to care who he was.
Channary appeared to be manipulative and abusive, as shown in Fairest when she told Levana to make a speech at their parents' funeral after slapping her, hinting that she didn't care for and or hated her parents, as well as her being sadistic and uncaring of other people's feelings. She cared more about the legacy she would leave behind as queen likewise stating that she wanted to be known as "the queen who never stopped laughing."
Despite her cruel and uncaring nature, Channary was capable of love as she genuinely loved Princess Selene, keeping her daughter's crib directly next to her bed and even choosing to feed Selene herself rather than have her servants do it for her. However, since she died soon after Selene's birth, the exact relationship she might have had with her is unknown.

- Glamour: Channary was not shown to have used her glamour or her gift excessively. Instead, she relied more on her negotiation skills and natural beauty. She was quite skilled at convincing people to do things that she wanted them to without manipulating them through bio electricity. However, according to Levana she was naturally talented, "Ss I am. As you [Selene] are." At the age of thirteen, while still in the process of learning to use her gift, Channary had forced Levana to throw herself into a fire that Channary had set, then convinced their parents otherwise.

Levana Blackburn[]
Levana is Channary's younger sister.
The two sisters had a complicated relationship. Despite Channary being the cause of the incident that damaged Levana, both sisters didn't really show much hostility towards each other. Rather, they acted passively and showed that they did not like the other's traits, thus they had very different personalities. Channary shamelessly abused her status as queen, which irritated Levana and Channary thought of Levana as a child. She showed no embarrassment in showing her sadistic personality towards Levana, even when they were young. Channary was responsible for scarring Levana at a very young age by convincing her to position her arm above the fireplace. Channary often taunted Levana with the term "baby sister."
Selene Blackburn (Linh Cinder)[]
Selene is Channary's daughter.
It was portrayed in Fairest that Channary's love for Selene was genuine and real in contrast to the other members of the Lunar royal family. Although Channary's lover and Selene's father was unknown, she still loved her child and personally took care of her rather than the servants doing so, causing Levana to be intrigued by this side of Channary. However, the full extent of this relationship is unknown as Channary died just a year after Selene was born. It is unknown what Selene (now Cinder) thinks of her mother, but it is likely that she wouldn’t think very highly of Channary’s sadism.
